I'm Tia-Marie, I'm a 25-year-old artist from South East London, and I'm so pleased to meet you!
A little about my journey..
I began painting for people after leaving Sixth Form in 2014. Since then, I've branched out to selling original pieces, prints and merchandise, and I've even picked up a skill of digital art!
My art was only something I did in my spare time around work, until the very end of 2019 when I decided to quit my job. I was entirely unprepared, but I was super miserable at my job, so it felt necessary.
Within the first quarter of 2020, we were hit with the Coronavirus Pandemic. I had already decided that I didn't want to go back to working for someone, and would try my best to go full-time with my art, but with Covid rearing its ugly head.. it felt like the absolute worst time to be unemployed and winging it lol!
Lockdown encouraged me to paint more (for my literal sanity) and after about a month and a half spent in the house, I had an idea that filled me with excitement and a new-found sense of purpose.
Learn to Affirm was conceived in May 2020 and was born in October 2020. Inspired by my own mental health journey, I aimed to create something that my younger self needed, in hopes to help children today! Learn to Affirm aims to help children develop their confidence and self-love. It's been the perfect project for me, as it combines my passion for art, and my purpose to uplift. It has allowed me to take from my most dark and difficult times, and put something into the world that encourages the complete opposite.
Over the last 4 months, hundreds of children have been gifted our Learn to Affirm activity books, and incredible charities and non-profits such as Juvenis, Bromley & Croydon Women's Aid, Victim Support and Peabody Housing Association have redistributed our books as apart of their supportive work. It's been an amazing journey so far, and I can't wait to see how the Learn to Affirm brand unfolds and expands!
